Beth sets her sights on a medical career

Beth Lund

CURRO’S SPAR Star of the Month is Beth Lund, a hard-working learner who was short-listed from more than 3 000 applicants for the Apprentice Doctors Future Doctor’s Course recently.

This was based on her personal letter of motivation, her veterinary work at the Heritage Veterinary Clinic from Grade 10 until midway though Grade 11 and her involvement in the school work experience initiative where she shadowed paediatrician Dr Nadia Khan.

“She is passionate about children and an inspiration as a doctor,” said Beth.

The matric learner took part in the five-day course at the Scibono Discovery Centre in Johannesburg.

Each day they had lectures and practicals from 7am to 5pm.

On the last day, learners took a theory test, as well as an extensive practical.

Beth passed the practical segment of the course with a 100 per cent and the theory test with a 98 per cent, achieving the highest in the class.

Should she be accepted, she would like to study a bachelor of medicine and surgery at UCT.

“Beth has done us proud. She has a dream and works with dedication to reach this goal. Well done,” said Curro’s marketing manager, Fiona Johnson.
