ST Benedict School recently welcomed home 16 high school learners who spent two weeks on an exchange programme with Missionsgymnasium St Antonius, in Bardel, Germany.

This school group exchange first took place in 2008 and has successfully continued every third year since.

“The 2017 touring students were hosted by the families of the Bardel school and started their programme with time in the school experiencing the cultural and academic differences and similarities within the school day,” said acting head of primary school, Barbara van Rensburg,”

“They continued their time with visits to nearby Enschede and a day visit to Amsterdam in the Netherlands. They then went on to explore the German city of Munster and had an overnight excursion to Berlin. A morning spent at a forced labour camp Memorial in Esterwegen was a moving and memorable experience for all,” she said.

The Bardel School is situated in the Bad Bentheim area where the group was invited to a tour of the Bentheim Castle followed by an interview with the Mayor of Bentheim.

“St Benedict School is looking forward to welcoming the third group of students from Bardel to Durban in 2018, and both schools look forward to continuing this exchange in the years ahead,” added van Rensburg.
