According to Pinetown SAPS communications officer, Capt Bongumusa Manqele,  the 61-year-old victim was outside his gate in Louis Walters Road in New Germany on Tuesday, 13 June, at 7.10am when he was allegedly accosted by three armed men.

“The victim was allegedly pulled out of his vehicle and the suspects fled the scene with the car. Police were alerted and the vehicle details were circulated.”

“The men drove to KwaDabeka where they bumped into police who were looking for them,” he said.

Manqele said two of the suspects abandoned the car, but the driver was arrested.

“Police recovered a pistol with eight rounds of ammunition from the man. The arrested man was out on bail for another carjacking where a police detective was hijacked in October last year,” said Manqele.
