Three arrested for unlicensed firearms in New Germany

The three men were found in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

THREE men aged between 24 and 25 were arrested by Pinetown detectives for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition yesterday afternoon (12 July) in New Germany.

According to Pinetown SAPS communications officer, Capt Bongumusa Manqele, the detectives were doing their routine duties in the area when they received information from an informant about a business robbery that was going to take place at one of the restaurants in New Germany.

“They were given the full description of the men and then proceeded to the scene where they parked within a short distance away from the restaurant. Detectives spotted the men who fitted the same description that was given to them earlier,” said Manqele.

The men tried to run away when police approached them.

“Detectives recovered two pistols and 18 rounds of ammunition from the men. The men were arrested and charged for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition,” added Manqele.

They are expected to appear in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court soon.
