Noa is a natural born leader and orator

Noa van Heerden is Hillcrest High School's SPAR Star of the Month.

HILLCREST High School’s Grade 11 learner, Noa van Heerden, is a well-spoken, humble and confident young woman and has always been one to extend herself, to be the best she can be.

In addition to her working hard at her academic education, Noa has a passion for social investment, with particular interest in the empowerment of women.

Noa is the school representative for the Durban Youth Council, who “does a lot to uplift the community”, said Noa.

Just last year, she took up the school extra mural activity of debating and has flourished, taking part in local, national and even international competitions.

It is hard to believe, but Noa said she was always shy, and when she came to Hillcrest High School, one of her goals was to “put myself out there more”.

In August, Noa participated in an event targeted at young women (12 to 25 years) held in connection to Women’s Month at the Blue Roof Life Space in the community of Wentworth.

Nicole Potgieter, the youth programme manager, said: “Noa van Heerden played a pivotal role during this event when she was given an opportunity to address the attendees. She presented herself with confidence, integrity and radiance, as she spoke to the attendees on the power of building each other up as women and how we needed to stand together and grow, rather than destroy each other.

“Her talk was impactful. Before us stood a 17-year-old adolescent girl, confidently sharing her life and encouraging others to actively take ownership over health and well-being, the adolescent girls hung onto her every word.

Noa van Heerden was a display of the youth we long to see in this country. Hillcrest High, you can be incredibly proud of this natural born leader rising up in our midst.”
