Asher’s true grit pays off

Asher Hollister is Highbury's SPAR Star of the Month.

GRADE 1 learner, Asher Hollister, is Highbury’s SPAR Star this month.

Asher is only seven years old and yet is already an accomplished golf player.

He won the Junior Africa Golf Challenge in San Lameer in August, competing against participants from South Africa and abroad.

His mom, Corina, said Asher had an incredibly challenging week as he was sick with flu, but he showed tremendous grit and still managed to fight his way to a victory.

“We couldn’t be prouder of him,” she said.

He shot scores of 40, 39 and 39 consecutively and even clenched a well sought after Eagle on the 8th hole on the last day.

Asher also did well in the World Golf Championships in Pinehurst, North Carolina, a few weeks earlier and came 26th in the U7 age group, out of 136 boys.

He enjoyed meeting children from all over the world and figuring out how to communicate across the language barriers.

“The school is proud of this young man for showing such courage and determination in golf,” said Highbury’s marketing assistant, Jacqui Maurice.
