Five killed, four injured in single vehicle roll-over on N3

FIVE people were killed and four others seriously injured when a single vehicle veered off the N3, Durban bound just past Pavilion.

The vehicle rolled down the embankment, landing on Conway Road, on the Berea West area just after 2.30pm today.

Garrith Jamieson of Rescue Care said on arrival paramedics found multiple patients still entrapped in the wreckage as the vehicle lay on its roof. More ambulances were dispatched to the scene to assist.

“Once the patients were freed, it was confirmed that five fatalities had been reported and four others are currently being stabalised on scene by advanced life support paramedics,” said Jamieson.

The exact cause of the accident is unknown, however SAPS are on scene and will investigate.

Conway Road is currently closed in Berea West, Westville area and motorists are urged to avoid this area or use alternate routes.
