Police investigate Malvern father’s brutal murder

Desmond Roberts was described as a strong boy, fearless and admired by many.

WHAT was initially believed to be a suicide has turned out to be a senseless murder. Desmond Roberts (22) was murdered in his apartment in Malvern on New Year’s day after he and some friends returned from a day out in Kloof.

In an interview with Queensburgh News, Roberts’ sister, Desiree Roberts said, “He was with a girl who told police that she saw him stab himself which was contradicted by the nature of his injuries.”

Roberts had two stab wounds on his chest and his throat was slit severely.

Roberts contacted his family on New Year’s Eve to tell them he will be visiting the next day.

“He sounded okay, showed no signs of distress or of being suicidal,” said his mum, Anlie Mac Donald.

The father of a two year old daughter grew up in Queensburgh and attended Escombe Primary School and then Queensburgh High School.

He was well loved by the community and he knew everyone. He was the youngest child with four older sisters. Bianca Roberts described her brother as a strong boy, fearless and admired by many.

According to Bianca, Roberts received threatening messages on Facebook prior to his murder.

The family is appealing to any witnesses or anyone who might have information concerning Roberts murder to contact the police. The family has also hired a private investigator to dig deeper into the case and get to the bottom of this gruesome murder.

A case of murder has been open with Malvern SAPS. No further information about the case can be released at this point as police are still investigating.

The 22 year old will be layed to rest on Saturday, 6 January.
