THE fabulous and fun-loving group of feisty female friends climbed on their bikes (iron horses) and hit the open road on Tuesday, 20 February.

It was just the six women on their bikes with no back-up vehicle for support (no extra luggage or groceries).

They headed down to Robertson in the Cape to attend the Lady Bikers SA’s, 5th annual, Rally in the Valley (RITV). The women represent the Iron Angels, a female biker group which is all about the pure joy of riding, friendships and supporting worthy charities.

This is the third year the Iron Angels have attended the RITV and the charity they are supporting this year is Cancervive, an incredible organisation that promotes cancer education and awareness, driven by cancer survivors.

If anyone would like to offer any additional support for this cause you can contact Ingrid Constable via sms or WhatsApp on 082 735 9765 or email [email protected]

Constable thanked Tim from Shell NPN Auto Centre St John’s Avenue Pinetown for organising and sponsoring a tank of fuel for each of the ladies to get them started on their journey.

“NPN Auto Centre is a favourite meeting spot for many bikers,” she said.

The female bikers said there is nothing more peaceful and joyful than hitting the open road, feet up, just riding, witnessing our country’s spectacular scenery and experiencing the comradery of fellow bikers.

“This is pure joy, out on the road with these amazing women and at the same time supporting such a worthy cause. So many friends and family have been touched by cancer, it’s wonderful to be able to show we care and give any support we can. Because we can.To all our friends and family, thank you for all your love and encouragement.”

Meet the biker girls
Isabelle Courty (Izzy) 51 riding a BMW K1600B (B for bagger) – the only 1 in KZN. She has been riding for nine years, and has a variety of bikes in her collection.
The Iron Angels are particularly proud of her as she was in a horrific bike accident end of October last year and has endured a number of surgeries over the last four months so we think she is a rockstar for getting back on a bike and undertaking this long trip.

Charlene Dickerson (Blom) (59) on her Harley CVO DeluxeBlom is the Road Captain and the Mamma Bear of the group. This is her third ride down to Rally in the Valley, last year it was just her and Cathy Booyens that rode down on their own. Talk about superstars.

Cathy Booyens (58) riding her Pink Harley Softail Delux 1800ccBusy lady, Cathy is the founder of Iron Angels, the current LOH Chairlady and School Principal of MTTC in Hillcrest. This is also her third ride to Robertson.

Caren Clarke (53) on her sweetest blue ever Harley CVO Road KingOur engineer of the group and most avid rider, Caren rides at every given opportunity and almost every weekend. This is Caren’s second RITV

Mayanda Dinwayo (Maya) (40) (Baby of the bunch) riding a Harley Tri Glide Maya’s trike is aptly named Inkosazana ‘The Princess’ and is Maya’s precious pride and joy. This was be Princess’s first trip out the province.

Ingrid Constable (52) on her 2006 Harley Softail Standard 1450cc (old but still a beauty…the bike that is). Ingrid grew up with motorbikes and at aged five rode her first bike, which was lovingly hand built by her Dad, Bryan Hinks. This is her second RITV trip.
