M7 verge clean-up impresses residents

Ward 63 councillor, Chris van den Berg.

THE progress made on the maintenance of the M7 since Queensburgh News published the article about the dangers it posed for motorists who travel on it daily has pleased the community and the ward councillor who tirelessly pushed for the clean-up.

Northdene resident, Penny Olivier, said they would like to thank the responsible department for taking time over the past couple of weekends to cut the bush on the Northdene off-amps and along the M7.

“I would further like to commend the work of the KZN transport department for arranging an emergency cut along the route.”

“The cut is well underway, and we have been impressed with the way it has been handled to date. It is the best effort that we have seen in many years. We sincerely hope that the clean-up of cuttings, debris and litter along the route will follow and be as thorough,” she said.

Ward 63 councillor, Chris van den Berg said he is pleased to see the grass and bush cutting along the M7 is well underway.

“The overgrowth had become a death trap and I am looking forward to the completion of this work, as this to the best of my knowledge will still include the clearing of the storm water drains and the spraying of the weeds,” he said.

He further expressed that this intervention should go a long way to help prevent the water build-up on the road and stop the Mexican Daisy’s (the fast growing weeds) from taking over between cuts.

“This then should reduce the risk factor for drivers using this road. I thank all involved and wish people safe travelling,” he said.
