A CAR dealership in Pinetown was robbed by armed men yesterday, Sunday, 15 April.

Pinetown Cluster communications officers, Capt Bongumusa Manqele said it is alleged the men went to the dealership at about 8.30am and posed as shoppers. They left and returned an hour later and continued to look at the cars.

“When they came back the third time, the security guard who was on duty became suspicious and asked them what they were looking for. The men told him they were coming from Ladysmith and were shopping for a car.

“When the security guard asked them why did they come so far only to have an interest in this particular dealership, they pointed guns at him and his friend who works at a nearby business premises as a security and ordered them to lie on the floor.

Manqele said the security guards were beaten before they were tied with cable ties, and also took the panic button from the security guard.

“While the security guards were still lying on the floor, they heard the cars being driven off from the dealership.

“When the two security guards managed to break free from the ties they noticed that three Mercedes Benz, a BMW and a Ford Eco sport had been stolen from the dealership. A case of business robbery was opened at Pinetown Police station,” said Manqele

The police initiated their investigation and were alerted of a silver grey Mercedes Benz that was seen driving at a high speed in KwaDabeka township.

“Police immediately followed up on that information and recovered one car parked at KK hostel in KwaDabeka,” said Manqele.
