Kloof BMX racer rides like the wind

South African BMX champion, Dylan Eggar at the Queensburgh BMX Club.

SOUTH African BMX Champion and all round sports guy, Dylan Eggar, has no plans of slowing down or giving up his title in the near future.

This avid member of the Queensburgh BMX Club started riding at the age of three when his older sister introduced him to the sport, and has not looked back since.

His passion and determination to be the best drove him on to great heights and at just 19 years old, he has claimed the SA BMX Champion title no less than 11 times in a row.

Dylan was one of 28 South African BMX specialists who headed to Rockhill, South Carolina to represent the country in the BMX World Championships from 23 to 30 July last year.

He is determined and committed to the sport.

“I will do this as a career until the age of 30 and will then look into coaching,” he said.

Dylan’s talent has received international recognition and he has nine world numbers under his belt, meaning he was placed in the top eight in world championships.

In 2016 he was one of two KwaZulu-Natal’s great junior BMX enthusiasts to take part in a BMX training camp identifying young talent from around the world, at the UCI World Cycling Centre (WCC) in Switzerland.

Dylan also won the Junior Men’s race at the 2016 African continental BMX championships held in October.

The rider said he has the full support of his family and even though he started at a very young age, he was never forced to pursue the sport further but was motivated by his love of riding.

“My piece of encouragement to younger riders is that it doesn’t matter how many times you lose, just keep getting up and hard work pays off,” he said.
