WATERFALL Neighbourhood Watch needs extra legs to help patrol the large area.
To help keep the Waterfall area safe, a neighbourhood watch group, Waterfall Street Patrol, was formed in 2016, covering Waterfall 1 and Waterfall 2 communities. For the street patrol to perform at its full capacity, it urgently needs additional members to help spread the load of the nightly patrols.
One member, Sheldon Locke, said they appeal to anyone who is prepared to commit to regular patrols either during the day or night.
“The group constantly needs to increase their capacity to respond as well as improve their technology that will further enable clearer communication and early detection warning,” said Locke.

The street patrol members said they are also working toward the provision of additional cameras and a dedicated repeater for their radios as monitoring the terrain without this is really challenging.
Locke said they have presented their credentials to Hillcrest SAPS and explained their aims assuring them of the intention to support and to work alongside police.
The group already works hand-in-hand with local security companies, meeting regularly with them to strategise and co-ordinate efforts to rid their area of crime for the community to feel safe.
“Resident based WhatsApp groups have been established for people to call for help on the group and patrollers will respond in numbers,” he said.
