Hammarsdale truck driver arrested for sexually abusing a child and raping another in Inchanga

The suspect was arrested by members from Pinetown Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS)

A 35-year-old man from Hammarsdale is expected to appear in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court for the alleged rape of one child and sexual abuse of a second child in Inchanga.

The man was arrested by members from Pinetown Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) yesterday morning, (Thursday, 13 September).

According to Pinetown Cluster communications officer, Capt Bongumusa Manqele, two cases of rape were reported on Saturday, 8 September at Inchanga Police Station where one victims was allegedly raped and another child sexually abused by the same suspect on different occasions, but on the same day.

Manqele said it is alleged that in the first incident, a 10-year-old boy was walking from the tuck shop when he was called by a man who was driving a marked company vehicle.

“The man asked the boy to give him directions to the Roman Catholic Church. The boy got into the truck with the man and they drove in the direction of the church, but when they got to the place he was asking about, the suspect drove past and stopped in a deserted area where he allegedly raped the boy.

“After he raped him, he drove back to where he picked up the boy. After he dropped off his first victim, he went to another yard where two children were playing. He took a six-year-old girl and also allegedly abused her. He forced her to have oral sex with him,” said Manqele.

Both victims described the same man to the police.

Preliminary investigations led the police to a company in Hammarsdale where they got all the details of the person who was driving that particular company car on that day.

He was subsequently arrested and is expected to appear in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
