Police confirms Mariannhill Toll Plaza rape case was a lie

A RAPE incident, which the ‘victim’ claimed took place near the Mariannhill Toll Plaza, has turned out to be false. According to police, the woman had lied about the incident.

The victim, a 17-year-old girl, told police yesterday that she had been raped by two unknown men who had given her a lift. She claimed they had stopped at bushed area near the plaza where they raped her.

“Police investigations revealed that the girl, who is from Eastern Cape, was visiting her boyfriend in Clermont. The two had a quarrel and she claimed that she was raped,” said Pinetown Cluster Communications officer, Capt Bongumusa Manqele.

Manqele  issued a stern warning to people to stop reporting false cases to the police as they will be arrested and charged for perjury.
