ONE of the most rewarding calls I’ve been on in ages, reassuring me of why I do what I do.
My mate, Duncan and I drove out to Ntuzuma township recently for a big snake in a mango tree.
We almost gave up our search when I suddenly spotted the head of a Boomslang among the leaves. I chased it in the tree, before it dropped down into the open, where we subdued it with ease.
Afterwards, a man brought out the poster I put together recently with the Highway Mail team, which was distributed in the Caxton newspapers, for free. That’s how he got my number.
The children loved looking at the photos of the different snakes, learning which is which. It was so heartwarming to see, honestly.
All of the kids touched the Boomslang, after running away at first.
Everyone there was so grateful, with the elders thanking us over and over, promising to call if they needed our help again.
Amazing experience! Fills me with hope for this country.
